Wii Up-CLose

The Wii is Nintendo’s most recent game console which succeeded the Nintendo GameCube and was released in four key markets on December 8, 2006. So far it is the most compact and lightweight of the next-generation game consoles. It lightly weighs about 2.7 pounds, measures 8.5 inches long by 6 inches wide and is less than 2 inches thick. It can be positioned horizontally or vertically just like the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. The game console makes use of a PowerPC processor manufactured by IBM, but was jointly developed by Nintendo and IBM. The Wii features the Wii Remote—a wireless controller, which can detect movement in three dimensions. The Wii Remote or often called as the Wii-mote communicates with the console through Bluetooth up to a 10 meter radius. This remote connects to the Nunchuk, which is a joystick-style controller which provides unique motion-sensitive game play. The Nunchuk directs the movements while the remote controls the actions. The controller’s symmetrical design allows it to be used left-handed or right-handed. The Wii Remote can also be turned on its side and used like a NES controller. Another distinctive feature is the WiiConnect24 which offers free on-line services and game play. The console has a built-in 512MB flash memory for storage and an additional SD card reader. Unlike its competitors the PS3 and Xbox, the Wii currently cannot read and run music CDs or play DVD video. It also does not have that sophisticated video graphics and quality sound as boasted by its competitors.

A popular Wii game recently released is Deadly Creatures where actors Dennis Hopper and Billy Bob Thornton lend their voices to two guys looking for buried gold in the desert. As these two tell their tales of the treasure hunting escapade, so does the adventure of the scorpion and tarantula unfold. You can either play the character of the scorpion and a tarantula battling other arachnids, insects and reptiles like rats, pill bugs, crickets, wolf spiders, dung beetles and hornets. You also get to battle bosses like a Gila monster, a rattlesnake and humans. Enjoy different playing styles, the scorpion having a more action-oriented game play and the tarantula a stealthy attacker. The only disappointing thing about the game is its game length in that you only get to play ten levels and battle a few bosses.
